Billing Multiple Items

Billing Multiple Items

There are a couple of basic rules:

1. Letters and Numbers DON'T mix (i.e. you can't bill a private code, such as a worker's compensation item or vaccination with an MBS item)

2. GPMP and TCAs (721/723/732) can NOT be billed with a consult item (i.e. 3, 23, 36, 44), but CAN be billed with another type of care plan (i.e. 2715/2717, etc.)

3. Mental Health Care Plans (2715/2717 or 2700) CAN be billed with other items, as long as they are labelled NOT RELATED.

4. Surgical Items diminish in value after each item, e.g., if three biopsies are done (30071), their value decreases by half each time; i.e. biopsy 1 would be $44.40, 2, would be $22.20, 3 would be $11.10.

5. You can privately bill a consult with a bulk-billed MHCP item, as long as the note NOT RELATED appears in the note text when bulk billing the MHCP item.

OK, got it!
