Starting from 1st June, the NSW Government begun funding ALL flu vaccines for persons aged 6 months and over. This hasn't seen an enormous jump in our demand, but we've done the following to help ensure we vaccinate as many patients as possible:
If a patient has either HAD their vaccine or is not interested, the standard GREEN flag confirmation is used instead.
Please be mindful that patients attending for a flu vaccine only (see booking notes when opening the patient file from your list) may not necessarily expect to be billed for a consult, and may object if anything beyond the flu vaccine is GP-initiated (even if it IS good clinical practice)!
In recent months, a number of patients have come to have iron infusions either at our behest or that of an external provider (with the patient still known to us). In the interest of avoiding placing unnecessary strain on clinical staff (and possible medico-legal liability), if you as GP have ordered an iron infusion, please complete the medication order and consent with the patient ahead of their booking. If over telehealth, then printing the consent for a simple signature at the time of the infusion can relieve a great deal of stress for both the patient and the supervising staff (if not yourself)!
Megan HASICK will be taking on a new corporate role from 17th June, that will mean her sessions will move from Fridays to Saturday afternoons on a fortnightly rotation. As this is outside of the practice's opening hours, these consults will be telehealth ONLY.
Megan is still happy to continue receiving new referrals for patients!
With the new decking complete, or available waiting space has now tripled (by way of square footage). With the new heaters and shade, we hope that the space can help us relieve crowding and improve patient safety!
A mural is to be added to the newly cleared wall - more details to come!
Please direct your patients to use the Practice's 'Contact Us' web portal to follow-up on their results, as well as when they need to send images or other documents prior to their appointments. This allows admin to better triage and direct correspondence, and reduces the pressure on nurses for follow-up during peak times!
As had been anticipated for some time, SafeScripts are now available in NSW (and in the SLHD area)!
The SafeScripts system (also known as Real-Time Prescription Monitoring) is intended for use in avoiding contraindicated medications while prescribing, over-prescribing and doctor shopping. The system has been activated for ALL user accounts and is fully integrated into Best Practice, requiring a separate log on to use (NB: once logged in, you can choose to log in for the day to avoid going through the 2-step verification process for each patient).
The system is also available for manual access from the practice web portal (see/click below)!
Just a quick note to say that our acreditation has been APPROVED until 2025! Thank you to everyone for helping to get this process!
