"What do the Medicare and HI checks mean?"
The Medicare/DVA Checks essentially allow us to see if a patient's medicare card or medicare status is in date and valid. This check is run twice daily (once before opening and another time between 1 and 2pm) to ensure that all patients booked on the day have their status checked so they can be billed appropriately.
The Health Identifier (HI) check
allows us to contact the
My Health Record system in order to access
patient discharge summaries,
relevant imaging and
pathology
(if available) when we don't have copies of the original files in a patient's local record (held at the practice in
Best Practice).
