After 2 years of pandemic and WA Premier McGowan's long standing game of 'Musical Borders', Sara ZANFORLIN has finally been able to escape Sydney, and by now is well on her way to South Australia where her, Fabs and Mojo will begin the next chapter of their lives together.
We were able to have a muted and (sort-of-but-not-really) COVID safe farewell for Sara on Tuesday evening. It is difficult to overstate he contribution Sara has made to CSMP during her time with us, and doubtless her influence will be felt for many years to come. She has left an indelible mark on all of us (and on some of the furniture), but while it is a bittersweet goodbye, we all hope that wherever she may find herself professionally fully appreciates the enormous blessing she will be to them. From all the CSMP family, we wish her and the family the very best for the future, knowing that she will thrive in whatever environment she is in, and that no matter how far she may be from us in person, she goes with all of our love and support.
Our on-site accreditation visit was a mixed experience. Under the new RACGP 5th standards, there is a greater focus on documentation, training and risk management, all of which is intended to drive greater accountability and safety for patients and clinicians, although it is difficult to see it as such after two years of pandemic responses and planning.
From a clinical perspective, our visitors were generally appeased. However for all GPs, the paperwork we delivered does not meet the current requirements - this is largely due to the fact that our accreditation (which should be in part a review of the 2017-2019 triennium) was pushed well into the END of the current 2020-2022 triennium. To that end, I will need from ALL GPs:
Please use the button below to submit these documents once ready. This is a compulsory requirement for our accreditation. In addition, we'll developing a 'training log' for the use of provided practice equipment (including the portable ECG, ABI and spirometer amongst other things). This is also a new requirement (not the training, but the login of training for all clinical staff).
Administratively, after significant reluctance on our part, we will move to individual Best Practice log ins for all administrative staff. This will present a range of challenges for us, most notably the fact that with more accounts there is the potential for double/triple (and more) handling of tasks. However, we will retain the CSMP Online Rx and Referral Requests account as a means of managing all EXTERNAL communications, and using the individual accounts for INTERNAL comms. This will hopefully reduce the number of potential gaps in the system, while appeasing the college.
These documents MUST be returned to me on or before 12th March, 2022.

While the current NSW Health (govt.) advice has all but abolished most of the 'stay at home' requirements for COVID infection, our current practice remains that patients that have had a positive COVID diagnosis (PCR or RAT) should not attend in person for TEN (10) days.
Close contacts of positive cases can return TWO negative PCRs (one from day of notified exposure, and one SEVEN (7) days later) for on-site visits - this includes our own staff.
For that reason, we've expanded the number of licences for the Rainbow software that allows you to patch your own device (mobile) into the CSMP phone network, allowing:
The software is free, and can be downloaded by clicking the button below and selecting your device type (Windows, Mac OS, iPhone or Android).

Please direct your patients to use the Practice's 'Contact Us' web portal to follow-up on their results, as well as when they need to send images or other documents prior to their appointments. This allows admin to better triage and direct correspondence, and reduces the pressure on nurses for follow-up during peak times!
That's right - influenza is STILL A THING! We'll be planning our flu clinics in the coming weeks, and will be led by a combination of nurses and GPs (unlike the COVID clinics, Flu Clinics MUST be GP supervised)!
Similar to our current COVID booster question on the screening, from the beginning of April we will also be asking patients if they are eligible (or interested) in receiving their flu vaccine at their coming appointment. This will allow us to run the clinics as a combination ad hoc and clinic model.
